Sound analysis: blog task

 1) Find a film clip on YouTube that uses sound in an interesting way. Analyse the use of sound, making sure you use the key language we have learned about sound in film:
Kingsman:Secret Service

  • Diegetic and non-diegetic sound
    Diegetic sound :
the physical sounds of violence like punches and gunshots, ears ringing, and the church bells and dialogue within characters in separate scenes.
    Non-diegetic sound:
the loud, driving rock music of "Free Bird" that plays throughout the fight, completely unrelated to the church setting
  • Parallel and contrapuntal sound
There is use of parallel sound through the rock and high paced song through the fight scene
  • Sound bridges
The music "Free Bird " is used throughout multiple different scenes in the church throughout the clip
Remember to discuss/analyse all the different types of sound present in the clip:
  • Music
deliberately used to up the pace, and create an entertaining and chaotic environment through the clip.
  • Dialogue
There is racist dialogue to show that the main character in the clip is not meant to be here , as well as in other scenes we see there is a understanding to a degree of what is happening.
  • Voiceover
There is no use of voiceover, only direct dialogue from different characters as scenes and perspectives swap.
  • Sound effects
ears ringing, stabbings, shooting, punches, objects thrown and screams
